The Northernmost of Thailand

Mae Sai district is the northernmost province of Chiang Rai, located north of Thailand. It serves as  a major border crossing between Thailand to Myanmar. Border towns Mae Sai of Thailand and Tachileik of Myanmar are separated by the Mae Sai River.

Mae Sai District is quite similar to the Quezon City of the Philippines on a count of the City being distinct from Manila City. Although both in Chiang Rai, Mae Sai is uncommonly referred to as Chiang Rai given that there is likewise a city named Chiang Rai,  just like Manila City in Manila.

According to online sources, tourists coming from Thailand are given a tour permit in exchange for their passport to venture in Myanmar.  Be sure to have enough time to process papers before the border closes at 10 in the evening. The country has opened its borders for foreign investors, more specifically, among its neighbours in the ASEAN region. Its chairmanship in the recently concluded ASEAN 2014 has boosted its participation in the  ASEAN Economic Community 2015.

Along the bridge, notice the seamless transition of Thai and Republic of Myanmar flags along the border’s bridge.

Myanmar’s active participation in the ASEAN in the recent years have also paved the way for the boost in exchanges with ASEAN states. As seen along the bridge, the ASEAN flag and its member states are strategically displayed to show the praiseworthy diplomatic relations between its states.

I have finally checked off one of Jamie’s bucket list (read: Walk to remember). TO BE IN TWO PLACES AT ONCE.

xoxo,

PAU
